چکیده

Cyclic voltammetry, UV–Vis absorption spectroscopy, and electron spin resonance are applied to study the properties of indotricarbocyanine dyes their radicals formed during electrooxidation. We use electrochemistry generate relatively stable free under controlled conditions. The undergo electrooxidation chronoamperometric electrolysis at 1.1 V (versus saturated calomel electrode) yielding radical dications. exhibit an band that is blue-shifted relative parent dye (561 nm versus 714 nm). New squaraine dyes for photodynamic therapy

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) [1]consists in the activation of molecular oxygen under irradiation by light in the presence of photodrugs (photosensitizers, PS) that have been previously selectively accumulated in the target tissues. In comparison with conventional treatment methods, PDT is considered to be a clinical treatment with high safety, few side effects, reliable repeatability, and relativ...

BODIPY dyes in photodynamic therapy.

BODIPY dyes tend to be highly fluorescent, but their emissions can be attenuated by adding substituents with appropriate oxidation potentials. Substituents like these have electrons to feed into photoexcited BODIPYs, quenching their fluorescence, thereby generating relatively long-lived triplet states. Singlet oxygen is formed when these triplet states interact with (3)O(2). In tissues, this ca...

Endothelium-derived free radicals: for worse and for better.

In a recent issue of the JCI, Matoba et al. (1) argue that hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) derived from endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) acts as an endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF) in small mesenteric arteries of the mouse. Their data are convincing, and if their conclusion is correct, H2O2 now joins nitric oxide (NO) (2, 3), superoxide anions (4), and potassium ions (5) on th...

Oxygen-Derived Free Radicals in Rats

Myocardial ischemia and reperfusion can evoke excitation of cardiac vagal afferent nerve endings and activation of a cardiogenic depressor reflex (Bezold-Jarisch effect). We postulate that oxygen-derived free radicals, which are well known to be produced during prolonged ischemia and reperfusion, contribute to this excitation. Hydroxyl radicals derived from hydrogen peroxide (H202) activate abd...

Formation of peroxide- and globin-derived radicals from the reaction of methaemoglobin and metmyoglobin with t-butyl hydroperoxide: an ESR spin-trapping investigation.

The reaction of human methaemoglobin and horse metmyoglobin with t-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BuOOH) was investigated with the ESR spin-trapping technique. With the spin trap 5,5-dimethyl-1-pyrroline N-oxide (DMPO) the formation of peroxyl, alkoxyl and methyl radicals derived from t-BuOOH could be detected. The relative contributions of these radicals were determined at various DMPO concentrations ...
